In observance of the Christmas Holiday, Silver Consolidated Schools will be closed from Thursday, December 21, 2017, through Friday, January 5, 2018.  Regular class schedules will resume on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Silver Consolidated Schools will hold Staff Development days on January 8 and 9, 2018.  

Early Dismissal times for students are as follows:

Silver High                         Tuesday, Dec. 19              11:30 am
                                            Wednesday, Dec. 20         11:30 am

La Plata MS                       Tuesday, Dec. 19              11:30 am
                                           Wednesday, Dec. 20         11:30 am

On Thursday, December 21, 2017 Cliff Schools and Opportunity High School will close at 12:00 noon and will remain closed from Friday, December 22, 2017 through Friday, January 5, 2018.  Regular class schedules will resume on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

 Cliff Schools and Opportunity High School will hold Staff Development days on January 8 and 9, 2018.

 The Administration Offices will be open regular business hours Monday December 18, 2017 through Wednesday December 20, 2017. On Thursday, December 21, 2017, Administrative Offices will close at 12:00 noon and will remain closed from Friday, December 22 through Wednesday, January 3, 2018.  Regular office hours will resume on Thursday, January 4, 2018.


Silver Consolidated Schools Board of Education Vacancy Announcement

Dear Community Member:

Due to the resignation of Board Member Frances Vasquez, the Silver Consolidated Schools Board of Education has a vacancy in District 3. The Board of Education must fill this vacant position by December 25, 2017. An individual appointed to fill the position will serve until the next election in February, 2019. To be eligible for consideration, you must:

  • Be a registered voter;
  • Be 18 years of age;
  • Not be a convicted felon; and
  • Physically reside in District 3

In addition to the legal qualifications, an appointed member of the SCS Board of Education must commit to:

  • Attend regular and special Board meetings when called;
  • Attend additional meetings such as executive meetings, work sessions, briefings and others as needed;
  • Attend committee meetings of the board such as policy; finance; and audit;
  • Attend professional trainings; and
  • Other considerations as circumstances warrant

If you are registered to vote in New Mexico, reside within District 3, and are interested in serving on the Silver Consolidated Schools Board of Education, please submit a letter of interest along with a copy of your current voter information card. Your voter information card will be used to confirm that you are a qualified elector and reside within District 3.  If you do not have a voter information card, you can go to the Grant County Clerk’s office and obtain a Certified Copy of your Voter Registration Application. The County Clerk’s office is located at 1400 Highway 180 East, Silver City, NM 88062 and charges $1.25 for such a copy.

Please send or hand deliver a letter of interest and confirmation that you are eligible to be considered for appointment no later than 4:30 p.m. on December 15, 2017 to the following address:

 All information that you submit to be considered for appointment to the Board of Education will be considered public records and subject to inspection by the public.

 Following a review of the submitted materials, the board will schedule interviews with selected candidates. If you have any questions concerning the role of the board of education and the responsibilities of a board member, please contact Audie Brown, Superintendent, for the Silver Consolidated Schools (SCS) at 575-956-2000.

 Interviews will be conducted on December 19, 2017, at the Regular School Board Meeting for all interested candidates for District 3 position.
